Nonprofit Facts of Life – That Nobody Told Me . . .

There’s a lot you need to know when you’re a Nonprofit Leader – a lot that may not have occurred to you when you agreed to follow your passion and make an impact with your favorite Nonprofit! There are both Fun Facts and No-So-Fun Facts.

Today’s Not-So-Fun Fact:

81% of Nonprofits provide new board member orientation, but only 43% have
conducted fiduciary training for board, finance or investment committee members, and only 35% include training on investment topics as part of orientation.

That’s one of the findings of the 2018 Endowment and Foundation Survey by CAPTRUST, an investment advisory firm headquartered in Raleigh, NC. The Survey had 150 respondents, 72% of which had investable assets below $50 million, and nearly 46% represented public nonprofits. (See page 35.)

Guess it’s no surprise that the June 2019 Gallup and Wellcome Trust Survey found that in the US, only 60% of respondents said they trust charities – and a whopping 27 said they don’t!
